Justus Grimm was born in Hamburg in 1970 and took his first cello lessons with his father, before studying with Ulrich Voss in Saarbruecken and Klaus Kanngiesser and Frans Helmersson in Cologne. He also attended master-classes with Heinrich Schiff, Boris Pergamenschikov, William Pleeth and Steven Isserlis.
Justus Grimm was a prize-winner in the German competition 'Youth makes Music' in 1994 and in the same year he received a scholarship from the Deutsche Musikrat. In 1998 he was a finalist in the international competition 'Gaspar Cassado' in Spain.
As a soloist he made his debut in 1993 with the State Philharmonic Orchestra of Hamburg and various prestigious engagements followed, including with the Philharmonic Orchestra of Bonn and the State Orchestra of Kassel.
Since 1999 Grimm is first solo cellist of the Royal Opera in Brussels. As well as various radio and television productions (with West, North and South-West Germany Radio) he has recorded a CD of works by Brahms, Beethoven and Schostakovice with Ars Musici in Freiburg.
Justus made his debut as a soloist with the EUCO in Spain in July 2002.
